The first verification law to take effect is Texas's SB 2420 on January 1, 2026. | | | | What this means for you | | | | Google Play doesn't mandate the use of these features. The laws impose requirements on many apps that may need to provide age appropriate experiences to users in these states. If you distribute apps to users in these states, it is important that you review these laws and understand your obligations. It is your responsibility to determine how these laws apply to your app, and whether and how to use these features to meet your obligations. | | | | While we have user privacy and trust concerns with these new verification laws, Google Play has previously announced APIs, systems, and tools to help you meet your obligations. Here are some updates in preparation for the January 1, 2026 compliance deadline. Additionally, we have also updated our FAQs with new information. | | | | Play Age Signals API (beta) | | | | If you plan to use the API, use library version 0.0.2 or higher of the Play Age Signals API (beta) to receive live responses for applicable users starting on January 1, 2026. | | | | New Console Features | | | | You will have the ability to add age ratings to purchase SKUs, notify Google Play of significant changes, and get details on revoked app approvals in Play Console. | | | | Revoked app approvals | | | | If you are using Play Age Signals API, you will also be able to access the details about the revoked app approvals. From January 1, 2026, you can be notified about revoked app approvals for users in applicable jurisdictions and regions. | | | | Significant changes | | | | From February, 2026, you will be able to notify Google Play about significant changes for users in applicable jurisdictions and regions. It is your responsibility to determine what constitutes a significant change for your app. | | | | Age ratings for in-app products | | | | Texas's SB 2420 may require you to assign an age rating to the in-app products available in your app. This age rating is distinct and separate from the content rating assigned to your app on Google Play. In-app products can be assigned an age rating value in Play Console or through the Publishing API.
